OYAKOUKOU
Oyakoukou, a virtue of filial devotion, inspired our client to renovate and expand this modest starter home as a heartfelt gesture to her mother.
Embracing rawness, simplicity and minimalism, the home reflects the tranquil essence of the family of three who reside there.
Reflecting the sisters' minimalist ethos, the small rooms feature a tactile palette of raw solid wood and indigenous materials.
Due to space constraints and the family's inclination for silence and literature over television, the formal living room was omitted. Instead, a snug setting with a customized sofa and a dining table was created. The walls feature minimal embellishments—a thrifted painting and personalized gouache paintings by Kristoffer Jan Sobremente.
Central to the project was a significant expansion to accommodate a larger kitchen, now unanimously regarded as the family's favorite place to gather and connect.
